Spot Plays for 7/31/2009

River Downs

Race 12: # 3 Silver Talk Rib drops in class for this run and should turn things around today. He may have been in over his head last out and the distance was a bit much for him. That race may be key as the winner has come back to win since then. He is much better against Buckeye-breds and six furlongs is right up his alley. Otto Thorwarth was the last jock to win aboard Silver Talk Rib and should guide him home first again today.

Saratoga

Race 6: # 11 Mine All Mine drops from stakes competition for this run and should move forward today. This is her third start off a layoff plus she had a reason to regress in that last outing. She owns a win over this oval which most runners in this spot can't say. Wesley Ward is solid with young horses and should have Mine All Mine ready for today's run.

Race 8: # 3 Keertana rides a three race win streak into this contest and should show up big today. Her last two races have been very good over two totally different grass courses. Since her last win she has an okay workout over the training turf which shows she is going good. She comes from a very underrated barn and should be ready to roll today.

Arlington Park

Race 5: # 3 Rahystrada drops in class for this run and seems to fit. He faced stakes company last out and might have been a little outclassed. He drops to claiming company today which he fits much better and gets a jock switch to Inez Karlsson who knows her way around the Arlington turf course. Look for a winning run from Rahystrada today.

Spot Plays for 7/30/2009

River Downs

Race 3: # 3 Ride in the Park makes his third start today and should get home on top today. His form has improved in his last two starts and he gets the riding services of Perry Ouzts which is always a positive. His sire(Ecton Park) used to love the slop and with all the rain yesterday the track should be off for today's card. Look for Ride in the Park to get home first today.

Race 11: # 6 Heather Time makes her second start off of the layoff and could find the wire first at a price. She stretches out in distance today which could be key and she should be able to handle the off going today. With Vernon Bush in the saddle look for a winning effort from Heather Time today.

Saratoga

Race 7: # 11 Simply Spiteful makes her debut today and has the skills and the breeding to be effective in this spot. Her workouts haven't been very quick but they have been long enough to put some foundation in her. Being by champion sprinter Speightown she should excel at this sprint distance. The team of Jeremy Rose and Mike Trombetta could be dangerous at the Spa this season.

Spot Plays for 7/29/2009

Saratoga

Race 1: # 7 Good Prospect ran well against similar two starts back and since then has improved. He is a strong turf runner that has showed some talent in the past and could be on his game. He's been based up here since shipping north from Florida and could pop at a price. He comes from a sharp turf barn and has one of the best jocks in Alan Garcia taking the reigns. Look for a big effort from Good Prospect today.

Race 3: # 8 Honour Devil makes his US debut today and should be sharp for this outing. He is a mulitple graded stakes winner in Dubai and ran well in his last start over there. He runs very well at these extended sprint distances and since his last start has put in a string of good workouts at Belmont and Saratoga for his return. He moves to a sharp barn and gets a very underrated rider in Rajiv Maragh who can guide Honour Devil to the wire first today.

Race 7: # 8 Trappe Shot makes his first start today and this son of Tapit should win for fun. He has been working strongly for this effort including a bullet workout over this oval which shows he likes it. He debuts for the team of McLaughlin and Garica who are a very potent team. Look for Trappe Shot to win for fun today.

Race 9: # 4 Aegean makes her return to the US today looking to get home on top. She ran poorly over the grass last out and might improve. She gets back on Lasix which could be key as her fading might have been a result of bleeding. Since her last race she has a couple of sharp workouts and should be fit to roll today for trainer Wesley Ward.

River Downs

Race 6: # 7 Vick's Violet makes her River Downs debut today and should run a big one. She ran a decent third at a much longer distance and should improve shortening up to 5 furlongs today. She should like the turf but it the race moves to the main track she can certainly handle that. She gets a new rider in Otto Thorwarth who is very solid and could guide Vick's Violet to the wire first today.

Mountaineer

Race 2: # 1 Whiskey Point makes his debut today and should win at first asking. His breeding suggest he can handle the grass the only question is can he handle this short of a distance. He gets one of the best jocks on the grounds in DeShawn Parker who is running away with all the riding titles at the Mountain. Whiskey Point has a string of soild workouts for this debut and should win well tonight.

Delaware Park

Race 3: # 2 True Zip ran well in her debut and should find the wire first today. She showed alot of early speed in that last outing and might be the quickest of the runners in this bunch. She keeps Jeremy Rose in the irons which is positive and should guide her home first today. Look for a winning run from True Zip today.

Mountaineer

Race 2: # 4 Seeking the Honey ran well last out and should improve tonight. She ran a decent third over the Presque Isle surface and might step up running on turf today. She has wins on the grass as well as dirt in case this race gets moved. Ricky Feliciano gets back aboard which is very good. Look for Seeking the Honey to get home on top today.

Spot Plays for 7/26/2009

River Downs

Race 1: # 5 Johnny Be True makes his debut today and should run a big one today. He has a string of decent workouts for this race including a nice 3/8th blowout two days ago to put a little speed into him. He gets an underrated rider in Azael De Leon who is flying under the radar right now. Look for Johnny Be True to make it to the winner's circle in his first try.

Race 7: # 5 Ohio Star makes her first start in the Buckeye state and should improve her form today. She chased the pace on the poly at Arlington before fading and could turn things around. She gets Lasix for the first time which is key as she bled in that last effort. A jock switch to Casey Chavez should get her home on top today.

Arlington Park

Race 4: # 1 Piano Magic makes his first run over the lawn today and could be rounding into form today. His last two effort have been good including a route race last time. The turf should move him up and the drop in class can't hurt. Tanner Riggs hangs around which is a positive. Look for improvement from Piano Magic today.

Race 6: # 2 A Rose for Lisa makes her third start today and should take another step forward. She ran well in her debut here at River then put in an even effort going shorter at Mountaineer. She ships back to a circuit that might be a little softer and has an okay work since her last effort. She seems to be rounding into good form and could come home first today.

Belmont Park

Race 9: # 7 Hightap comes into this spot on a two race win streak and should make it three in a row today. She seems to be in the best form of any runner in this race and her breeding shows she should handle the added distance today. Since her last outing she has put in two solid works over the training track at Saratoga and looks ready for this spot. She gets a new jock in Edgar Prado which is a positive sign. Look for Hightap to find the winner's circle again today.

Canterbury Park

Race 4: # 5 Mizzcan'tbewrong rides a two race win streak into this contest and should make it three in a row today. She took down two stakes that were taken off the turf but it just as effective on the lawn. She hasn't faced as tough of competition as the favorite in the race but she is just as good and should be a better price. Gets Robby Albarado for this effort which is a good sign. Look for three in a row from Mizzcan'tbewrong today.

Race 6: # 4 Who Let the Cat In has won five of his last six effort and should run very well today. He likes this oval with two wins and a second from three starts here and might be ready for a big effort today. Paul Nolan guided him home first last out and could do it again. This might be the toughest field he has faced in a while but surely he's up to the task today. Look for a winning run from Who Let the Cat In

River Downs

Race 1: # 2 French Chew ran a decent second last out and should take another step forward today. She was facing the boys in that race and ran into a buzzsaw in Cross Sabers. She returns to facing the fillies which could truly help. She has come up against some tough competition in her last couple and faces softer today. Look for a winning run from French Chew today.

Race 5: # 5 Camp Commander drops in class today and should improve greatly. He has never faired well over the turf so moving back to dirt could help him. He drops back to the claiming ranks and picks up the non-winners of four condition which will be key. Gets a new jock in Jorge Bracho which will help today. Look for a good run from Camp Commander

Race 9: # 3 Southern Sweet Tea has won three in a row on dirt and should make it four in a row today. She has a fair amount of early speed when on her game and has the speed numbers to fit with this bunch. She gets a new jock in Otto Thorwarth who has won with this filly before and should get Southern Sweet Tea home first.

Arlington Park

Race 7: # 6 Royal Highland drops in class for this run and should improve greatly. She tried stakes company last out in a race that was moved from the turf and didn't show anything. Her last effort against this class was a decent second behind a stakes winner so she should've gained something from that. Since her last run she has a decent workout over the oval and could be fit to run today with Jesse Campbell in the irons.

Race 6: # 3 Mercy drops into condition company for this outing and should improve greatly. She is a true horse for course with 10 of her 14 wins coming over this oval and she likes an off track which could be key today. With all the rain yesterday the track should still have some water in it. She gets a jock switch to Jose Calo who has been hot as of late and should guide Mercy to the winner's circle today.

Monmouth Park

Race 8: # 4 It's Not for Love switches to a speed-minded rider and should spring an upset in this spot today. On paper she seems to be the only speed in a field of closers. With Chuck C Lopez picking up the mount you know he's going to the front. With a comfortable pace look for It's Not for Love to come home first today.

Race 8: # 9 Da Mama shortens up in distance today and should improve greatly. She set the pace and faded at 7 furlongs and moving to 5 furlongs should help her carry her speed. She moves to the turf for the first time and her breeding suggest she can handle the grass just fine. Eddie Razo, Jr. fits this filly well and should get Da Mama home on top today.

Monmouth Park

Race 2: # 6 Wonderful 'n Wild makes her second start off of a layoff today and could improve today. She closed well last out and should have a similar pace setup today. She comes back on two weeks rest which shows she is in good form and fit for today's outing. Channing Hill keeps the mount which is a positive sign today.

Race 5: # 4 Sweet Talkin Rose won for fun in her return to the River Down's sod and should make it two in a row today. She moves to the stater allowance ranks which she has handled in the past and this bunch looks similar to the field she beat last out. She could be the fastest of all the runners in this field. If she is on her game look for a winning run from Sweet Talkin Rose today.

Delaware

Race 8: # 4 On the Vineyard returns to Delaware looking to get home on top today. He has been facing stakes foes as of late and should improve moving to this allowance race. Since his last run he has worked solidly at Monmouth and should be fit. He get's Carlos Marquez, Jr. who is very underrated and should get On the Vineyard home first today.

Mountaineer

Race 1: # 8 Jojo Jettin makes her second start off of a layoff today and should get to the wire first. She has the breeding to handle the grass and should improve off of her last run. If the pace sets up in her favor she should run a big race with Marco Ccamaque in the irons.

She didn't show much against tougher in her last start and the winner of that came back to win the American Oaks at Hollywood. Since her last run she has put together a string of workouts and loves this oval. With Jose Caraballo back in the irons look for a winning return from Megachurch today.

Mountaineer

Race 9: # 3 Jump to Start returns to dirt racing today and should get the job done. He is much better at routes than sprints and his early speed will be key. Since the last run he put in a decent workout over the oval and should be fit. He gets a new jock in T. D. Houghton who is very sharp and should guide Jump to Start home today.

Since that outing he has ran okay and now moves to a new barn. He shortens up in distance today and should be effective. Look for a winning run from Forward Wisconsin today.

Monmouth Park

Race 8: # 5 Mystic Miracle just missed last out and should step her game up today. She closed strongly at this distance and should have the pace setup to help her kick today. Since her last start she has put in three solid workouts and should be fit for this run. Elvis Trujillo picks up the mount which is key today.

Race 8: # 2 Harlow's Court won for fun in his debut and should make it two in a row today. He is very well bred and has handled the distance and surface in the past. Since is last win he has put in a couple of okay workouts for this return and gets the riding services of Joe Bravo who is one of the best on the grounds. Look for a dominating performance from Harlow's Court today.

Race 5: # 8 Yankee Lad makes his second start off of the bench and should improve today. He really needed that last outing and may enjoy the move from Indy to River. Since his last start he has a decent workout to prep for a return to the races and his last out may be a key race as the second place finisher has come back to win. Azael De Leon gets the mount for trainer Jeff Thornbury today.

Race 7: # 9 Rockslide Slim makes his River debut today and should get home first. He won for fun in his debut over polytrack and since hasn't shown much on conventional dirt. Moving to turf could be key for this runner as his breeding suggest he can handle the grass. Since his last out he has put in a couple of sharp works at Turfway and should be fit. His last couple of outing has been key as the winner in both have come back to run. With Perry Ouzts in the irons look for a big effort from Rockslide Slim today

Race 1: # 3 First to Know moves to the grass for the first time and should step his game up to win. He is bred to run on the grass and run far and hopefully he can get the job done. Race 8: # 12 Belfast Dancer returns to the turf for today's outing and should get home on top today. He was in over his head last out plus that wasn't his best surface. A return to starter allowance competition and turf racing will be the key. Eric Edwards fits this runner well and should get him home on top today.

Spot Plays for 7/11/2009

River Downs

Race 6: # 3 Elle Society makes her River debut today and should get home on top today. She won well last out over the Tapeta at Presque Isle and should be fit for this effort. Horses moving from Tapeta to different surfaces seem to fair pretty well. This race is carded for the turf but could be rained off as it is suppose to rain today in the Queen City. Perry Ouzts picks up the mount which could be key. Look for Elle Society to double up today.

Arlington Park

Race 5: # 2 Tizaqueena makes her AP deubt today and could run well at a price. She scratched out of a stakes at Churchill for this spot and has a strong workout to prep for this run. She has speed which could be key because the pace will be slow early on. If she can slow things down look for her to have plenty of kick late to run away from this field. E.T. Baird rides for Mike Stidham

Race 7: # 4 Oil Man ships in from Hollywood for this effort and could fire today. He won for fun in a strong renewal of the Cinema and since has had a strong workout at Hollywood. Wish he would have had a workout over this oval but John Sadler knows what he is doing. He needs some speed to chase and should get the right pace setup today. Look for a strong effort from Oil Man today.

Race 12: # 6 Silverfoot won well last out in his 2009 debut and should be able to step up in class today. He closed from the clouds to win the Tin Man over this oval and that was at a distance that might not be his best. He stretches out to the 1 1/4 mile distance which should be best. Since his last run he has a couple of good workouts at Churchill and should be fit to fire. With Chris Emigh in the irons look for a winning effort from Silverfoot today.

River Downs

Race 11: # 3 Flatterdew returns to the races off a short break and should get the job done today. She shipped to Indy last time and showed nothing on the turf. Hopefully a return to dirt racing will be the key. Plus she likes this oval and has an okay work to prep for this start. She gets Otto Thorwarth back in the saddle which is a positive sign. Look for improvement from Flatterdew today.

Race 13: # 5 Darned Worthy makes his third start off of a layoff and has a big chance in the nightcap today. This barn won with a horse shipping in from Pinnacle and this one should be no exception. The track up there is deep and seems to get horses in shape. The jock switch to Jose Calo is big as well. Look for a winning effort from Darned Worthy today.

Race 6: # 5 Thevicarsdaughter drops in class for this effort and should get the job done at a decent price. She always puts in a good effort and might have been over her head in that allowance race. She drops back to claiming races and faces Buckeye-Breds for the first time in a long while. Jorge Guerra fits this filly well and should get her home on top today.

Monmouth Park

Race 6: # 2 Inventive makes her turf debut today and should get home on top at a decent price. She made a nice middle move before tiring last out and should be fitter for that. Her breeding should help her with the grass and she gets one of the most underrated turf riders in Carlos Marquez, Jr. who is going well right now. Look for Inventive to pop at a price today.

Indiana Downs

Race 1: # 6 Atticus Guard makes her turf debut today and should improve her form tonight. She has a fair amount of speed that should help her and the added distance shouldn't be a problem. She keeps Rodney Prescott in the irons which could be key and they could get the job done at a price today.

Race 3: # 8 Bubblin' Brew makes her Indy and turf debut tonight and should spring an upset. She is much better at a distance and exits a key race as the winner came back to win yesterday down at River Downs. The Greenhill barn has been sharp this season and should have Bubblin' Brew keyed up for tonights run. Look for a decent effort tonight.

Spot Plays for 7/7/2009

River Downs

Race 3: # 5 La Rockette ships back to the River for today's contest and should spring the upset in this spot. She has been facing tougher at Churchill and could step her game up in this starter allowance contest. She has been off for about a month or so and should be fresh for this outing. With Juan Enriquez in the irons look for a solid effort from La Rockette today.

Race 4: # 2 Mini Lamp gets on the grass for the first time and should relish the going today. Everything in her breeding suggest that grass is where she wants to be and her latest workout shows she is fit. Hector Rosario, Jr. is starting to heat up and hopefully he can get Mini Lamp home on top today.

Race 7: # 1 Serengeti Wonder returns from a short layoff and should be ready to go. He is another one that is bred well for the lawn and he comes from a barn that does very well here at River and very well with it's turf runners. Only concern is there are no workouts for this return. If all goes well look for Serengeti Wonder and Edgar Paucar to get home on top today.

Race 9: # 4 Calling for Storms gets on a surface he should love and should be a big factor today. He ran very well in his debut only to come up short and hopefully he learned alot from that effort. His breeding is for distance and for grass and surely he can fire today. Mike Rone is a solid conditioner and getting Perry Ouzts in the irons is a plus. Look for a winning effort from Calling for Storms today.

Race 7: # 8 Medina Thunder makes her second start today and should get home on top. She made up a lot of ground last time and has the ability to improve. Since that effort she has a decent workout at Fair Hills and should be fit for this run. A jock switch to Rosie Napravnik could be key today.

Indiana Downs

Race 6: # 11 Complicity ran well last out and should have no issue stepping up in class today. Since her last start she has a string of strong workouts at Churchill that show she is fit and ready to roll. Julien Leparoux ships in for the mount which could be key today. Look for a big effort from Complicity today.

River Downs

Race 4: # 6 Greenhill Charlie moves back to the claiming ranks for this effort and should get home on top today. He just missed on the lawn last time against stater allowance foes and could fire in this $15,000 claimer. With the rain yesterday this race will surely come off the grass. That shouldn't be an issue for Greenhill Charlie today. Edgar Paucar keeps the mount which is a good sign.

Churchill Downs

Race 2: # 1 Fundy streches out for this effort and should get the job done today. He has shown speed in the past and that could be the key. These 1 1/8 mile races tend to lack early speed and front-runners get to the top, slow the pace, then run away from the field. Hopefully Brian Hernandez, Jr. can control the pace on Fundy and steal the show today.

She shipped up to Indy for two outings where she showed speed before fading and should get a better pace setup today. She gets a new jock in Hector Rosario, Jr. who is due for a win streak. Look for a solid effort from Crafty Wac today.

Race 12: # 3 Just Otis is making his third start off of a layoff and should be ready to fire today. He comes out of a key race as the winner has since returned to win and the second place finisher is in this race today. He loves this oval as both of his wins have come here at River and hopefully he is in good form. Look for a big run from Just Otis today.

Race 9: # 6 Miss Winston makes her River Downs debut today and should be ready to roll today. This is her third career start and while she didn't show much in the first two starts those were at Belmont and Keeneland where the competition is stiffer. She has a couple of decent workouts for this race and gets the services of Gavin Faulkner who doesn't come to River that often. Look for this daughter of Street Cry to get home on top today.

Arlington Park

Race 6: # 3 Shadow Giant is undefeated over the turf at AP and should add another win to her resume today. She controlled the pace last out and should be sitting on or near the lead today. Race 8: # 3 Seeyalatertater won against tougher last out and should add another win to her resume today. She drops into the claming ranks today after beating allowance foes and should run very well. She gets a new jock in James Graham who is the best jock in grass races and could get the best trip for Seeyalatertater

Indiana Downs

Race 5: # 6 Starship Supreme picks up a softer condition today and should get home on top today at a price. He ran in a stakes prep last time and may enjoy the drop to condition allowance for this spot. Since that outing he has a solid work down at River Downs and gets one of the best jocks around in Orlando Mojica who should guide Starship Supreme to the wire first today.

Race 7: # 4 Jump for Joyeux returns from the bench today looking to pick up where he left off. He was riding a three race win streak before going on vacation and since then he has a few solid workouts for this race. He is a sprint machine and should fire fresh today.
