Spot Plays for 8/31/2009

Remington Park

Race 1: # 3 Purse a Dream drops from stakes competition for this effort and should find the wire first today. He has been close in his last couple but hasn't been able to get the job done. The drop in class today and the move from Canterbury to Remington should help him out alot. With a jock switch to Eddie Martin, Jr. look for a big effort from Purse a Dream today.

Race 9: # 2 Sefas Belle just missed in her last out and should improve today. She likes to set the pace and hopefully the shorter distance and the pace setup will work in her favor. She gets a new jockey in Jermaine Bridgmohan who shifts his tack from Arlington looking to get off to a good start.

Spot Plays for 8/30/2009

River Downs

Race 5: # 2 Silent Fury moves back to state-bred competition today and should improve her form today. Draw a line through her last two as she didn't take to the slop two back and was facing open company last out. Her last effort against buckeye-breds on a fast track lead to a win and hopefully she can duplicate that effort today. Look for improvement from Silent Fury today.

Race 7: # 5 Tapitsdontlie was a solid third in her last effort and should find the winner's circle today. She shortends back up to 5 1/2 furlongs which might be her best distance and she gets Hector Rosario, Jr. back aboard who rode her to her only victory over this oval. The pace sets up in her favor and surely she can fire big today.

Saratoga

Race 10: # 4 Miss Isella just missed last out over this oval and should improve with the added distance today. She had reeled off two straigh wins against graded company at Churchill and could get her first grade one today. Looking to prove she isn't just a Kentucky horse look for a winning effort from Miss Isella with Calvin Borel back aboard.

Spot Plays for 8/29/2009

Saratoga

Race 2: # 7 Much Rejoicing makes his debut today and should run a big race. This distance should fit him just fine and with the expected rain he should love the off going. His works look pretty good especially the one in the mud this week and hopefully he can pop at a price with Alan Garcia aboard.

Race 9: # 3 Closeout likes the turf course when its a little soft and surely can run a bit race today. Her last race was very good and since then she has put in a few strong workouts over this oval and seems to be fit. She keeps Robby Albarado aboard which could be key and hopefully they can spring the upset today.

Race 11: # 2 Munnings shortens up in distance today and should be much more effective in this spot. He is much better at these sprint distances and doesn't need the lead to be effective at the seven furlong trip. There should be enough speed for him to just lay off the pace and surely he can get off the fence and make a big run. Look for a return to the winner's circle for Munnings today.

Race 12: # 6 Summer Bird ran gamely last out and should take another step forward today. His last run was the first since winning the Belmont and he ran into a buzzsaw last time that should be horse of the year. He should have some pace to chase today and if he gets the same trip he got in the Belmont he should win. He looks to duplicate what his sire did by winning the Belmont and the Travers and surely Summer Bird can come home on top today.

Spot Plays for 8/28/2009

River Downs

Race 7: # 2 Julesnomenclator has speed to spare and should wire the field for fun today. There is no other speed runners on paper so hopefully she can clear off in the early stages. There was a little rain in the area yesterday so hopefully the track will be tighter and speed will hold better. With Christian Rojas in the irons for Chris Melton look for a big effort from this frontrunner today.

Saratoga

Race 9:# 8 Seaspeak stretches back out in distance today and should get the pace setup needed to win today. He is much better at longer routes and has a chance to be in a good spot going down the backside. His closing kick will be key here and with Robby Albarado staying aboard look for a return to winning for Seaspeak today.

Saratoga

Race 6: # 9 Becky's Kitten gets on the grass for the first time today and this son of Kitten's Joy should improve greatly. The connections have been trying to get this one on the lawn and things haven't worked out as of late but hopefully it will be dry and Becky's Kitten will be able to show his skills. Strong works over the turf here shows he's ready to fire today.

Del Mar

Race 5: # 1 Meggie's Legacy stretches out for this effort and should be much more effective today. She was very green in her debut and hopefully she learned alot from that effort. Since then she has put in some long workouts to prep for the added distance. Moving to the grass will help her and hopefully David Flores and guide her home first today.

Spot Plays for 8/26/2009

Saratoga

Race 2: # 3 Jill's Kitten stretches out in distance today and should step forward today. She should enjoy the extra distance and a return to the turf course and hopefully can put it all together today. She has two good workouts since her last effort and a jock switch to Alan Garcia should help her improve. Look for a big run from Jill's Kitten today.

Race 7: # 1 Condemned makes his debut today and has the skills to fire first off the bench. He has been working well for this race including several works at today's distance. Five furlongs should be perfect for this son of Speightstown and hopefully he can get a good break and finish first today with John Velazquez in the irons.

Arlington Park

Race 7: # 10 Cat At Play won well in her debut at this distance and should step up to win another today. Her barn has been hot as of late at AP and since her last effort she has put in a few strong workouts over the Churchill oval for this return to the races. She gets one of the better turf jocks on the ground in Jermaine Bridgmohan in the saddle and hopefully they can team up for the win today.

Race 8: # 9 Pinfish makes her debut today and should fire at first asking. The works are a little slow but over that oval the works tend to be a little slower than normal. She gets one of the best riders on the grounds in Perry Ouzts in the saddle and hopefully they can team up for the victory today.

Delaware

Race 7: # 3 Parthian stretches out in distance for this effort and should improve greatly today. His breeding suggest he will improve over longer distances and the grass. He hasn't shown a work since his last effort but Gabriel Saez sticks around which is a positive sign. Look for a big effort from Parthian today.

Spot Plays for 8/24/2009

Saratoga

Race 7: # 7 Blues Street drops in class for today's effort and should get home on top today. He likes to close from the clouds and the surface he has on is his last couple didn't help closer. This turf course plays more to late runners and if he gets a clean trip he will be dangerous. A jock switch to John Velazquez could be key in the improvement of Blues Street today.

Delaware

Race 4: # 3 Handleman makes his third start today and should get home on top today. His running style indicates he should handle two turns and his quick morning works show he may have some speed. Hopefully the pace will not be too hot and he can steal this race. Brian Hernandez, Jr. picks up the mount today.

Race 6: # 1 Lost At Dawn looks like she can pull an upset in this maiden race today. Her breeding shows she should handle the grass and she has put in some good 5/8th workouts down at Monmouth for her debut. She gets one of the most underrated turf riders in the country in Carlos Marquez, Jr. who should guide Lost At Dawn home first today.

Spot Plays for 8/22/2009

River Downs

Race 9: # 6 Nevaeh's Song ships back to River for this effort and should improve greatly off of her last effort. She has been impressive in her last two races over the River oval and might have been over her head last out. Perry Ouzts gets back aboard which is a good sign. Look for a big run from Nevaeh's Song.

Saratoga

Race 5: # 5 Happy Bull drops from graded stakes company for this run and should find the winner's circle today. He stalked the pace last out and just couldn't hang against those foes but should enjoy the drop to allowance company today. Since his last run he has a strong workout over the Delaware oval which is his home base and should be fit to fire today. With Ramon Dominguez aboard look for a big run.

Race 6: # 1 Bashoosha makes her debut for Shadwell stables today and should fire at first asking. She has a string of workouts that show she is fit and has the breeding to handle this distance and course. The barn has been good this season and Alan Garcia might be the best jock at the Spa. Look for a winning debut from Bashoosha today.

Race 6: # 4 Couture Cat makes her debut today and should be ready to fire. Her breeding suggest she can run early and run often and her works are very sharp. She gets one of the best riders on the grounds in Ramon Dominguez who should guide Couture Cat home on top today.

Race 9: # 4 Flatter Than Me was a decent second last out and should find the winner's circle today. He comes out of a key race as two of the runners have returned to win stakes races. Since his last out he has a few strong works over this oval and should be primed for a big run. Robby Albarado keeps the mount today.

Race 4: # 3 Vivid Colors drops in class for this effort and should turn her form around today. She was a bit over her head in that graded stakes last out and the move to the allowance ranks will help her. She gets Robby Albarado back aboard who rode her in her only win and that should be key as well. Since her last effort she has put in a solid workout over the oval and should be ready to roll today.

Race 5: # 5 Rumor Control has reeled off two straight wins and should make it three in a row in this stakes today. She has won on turf as well as dirt but should be much better on the lawn. She comes from a barn that's starting to heat up and gets Javier Castellano back in the irons which is key. A strong workout shows she is ready to roll today.

Race 9: # 7 Beautician ran well in her stakes debut last time and should step forward again today. She had a tough trip last out and with a cleaner run she should improve. Her last work wasn't that strong but hopefully she can rebound. Look for an improved run from Beautician today.

Race 2: # 8 Ready for Change makes his debut for Darley stables today and should run well in his debut. He is bred for long distances and could be ready for this 7 furlong dash. He has a couple of solid workouts for this debut and gets one of the best riders around in Alan Garcia. Look for a winning effort from Ready for Change today.

Mountaineer

Race 2: # 6 Put Him Back drops in class for this effort and should get the job done today. Before his last start he was two for two over this grass course and might have been over his head in the stakes. He keeps the riding services of Oswald Pereira which could be a positive sign. Look for a return to form for Put Him Back

Race 3: # 3 Scorpion Go North moves back to the main track and stretches out in distance today looking to get back in the winner's circle. He is a much better horse going these longer routes and seems to handle dirt or polytrack better than grass. He gets a new jock in Dean Sarvis who found his way to the winner's circle yesterday. Look for a return to winning for Scorpion Go North today.

Race 4: # 4 Brave Mizz steps up in class today but should get home on top. She has the breeding to handle the lawn and should be fresh for this run. She takes a big move up in class today but should get home on top. With the best turf rider on the grounds picking up the mount look for a winning run from Brave Mizz today.

Race 7: # 3 Mindy Michelle returns to dirt racing today and could improve greatly. She won for fun in her debut over the dirt at Churchill and showed the same speed over the poly at Arlington last out. She might be better on a surface that speed holds better. She gets a new jock in Dean Sarvis for this outing so look for Mindy Michelle to return to her winning form today.

Race 7: # 6 Steve's Kitten just missed last out going shorter and should step his game up going long today. A key angle lately has been offsprings of Kitten's Joy stretching out for the first time on the grass. Since his last start he has put in a string of solid workouts over the oval and should be fit for a great two-year-old trainer in Wesley Ward. With the jock switch to Jesus Castanon look for a winning effort from Steve's Kitten today.

Arlington Park

Race 1: # 3 Mr. Realistic stretches out today looking to get to the wire first in his third try. He is bred for two-turn racing and should step his game up. He has been gaining in his last couple and the added distance should help. With Jesse Campbell in the saddle for Wayne Catalano look for a winning run from Mr. Realistic today.

Emerald Downs

Race 8: # 10 Sierra Sunset makes his third start off of a layoff and should be fit to fire today. He won for fun last out over the dirt and seems to be better on the conventional dirt. Since his last run he has a couple of decent workouts including one over this oval and should be ready to fire today. Look for a winning run from Sierra Sunset today.

Race 10: # 3 Crossed Sabres won for fun last out and should double up today. He dropped in from stakes company for that last effort and really enjoyed it. He steps up to the non-winners of a race other than condition and should fit this spot well. Dean Sarvis picks up the mount today.

Race 12: # 2 William's Kitten is the only runner in this field to win going two turns on the turf and should have an advantage over this field. He has the breeding to be great on the grass and comes from a barn that has been hot as of late. Orlando Mojica makes the trip in which is a positive sign.

Saratoga

Race 2: # 3 World Record makes his debut today and this well-bred son of Awesome Again should find the winner's circle at first asking. He has been working nicely for this outing and should be fit today. The barn has been a little cold at this meet but hopefully that will ensure a price on World Record today.

Race 10: # 6 Americain makes his US debut today and could step forward. He shortens in distance today and has won at the 1 1/2 miles in the past in France so hopefully distance will not be an issue. Since shipping to the states he has a string of solid workouts and Belmont and Saratoga and should be ready to fire today. Johnny V picks up the mount for Todd Pletcher

Race 3: # 7 Dakota Gipsy drops in class for this effort and should improve greatly today. He was in tight and had no rally against graded stakes company last out and the drop to allowance company could be key. Since that effort he has a decent workout over the oval showing he is ready to roll. Larry Sterling, Jr. in the irons could mean a price on Dakota Gipsy today.

Race 12: # 4 Makeover Me makes her second start off of the bench today and should run a big one today. She might have disliked the slop in that last effort plus she needed it being off for about a year. She runs back at a similar level as last time and gets a new jock in Perry Ouzts who is riding lights out right now. Look for a big run from Makeover Me today.

Saratoga

Race 7: # 5 Water of Life makes her debut today and could fire big today. She is bred for speed and her moring works show she is ready. She comes from a solid barn and gets their goto rider in John Velazquez who is riding well this summer. With a clean trip look for a winning run from Water of Life

Race 8: # 2 Guadalcanal loves these long distance races and should get home on top today. He has a win at an extended route last out and should have no issues stretching out another 2 furlongs. Calvin Borel fits this runner well and should get a clean trip for Guadalcanal today.

Race 7: # 4 Scottkeith'skitten trys the turf for the first time today and should improve greatly in this spot. We have seen this barn win with offsprings of Kitten's Joy on the turf recently and they seem to get the best out of his offspring. His breeding suggest he can handle the turf and the distance shouldn't be an issue. He gets the best turf rider in Julien Leparoux aboard and should break maiden at third asking today.

Race 3: # 6 Hidden Face makes her debut today and this well-bred daughter of Empire Maker has the ability to get the job done. She has a string of solid workouts for this debut including a sharp work over this oval. She gets the riding services of Alan Garcia who might be the best up at the Spa and should guide Hidden Face home first today.

Race 4: # 8 Paddy O'Prado makes his turf debut today and should turn things around. He showed little in his debut but that was on a surface he may not have liked. He gets on the grass and his breeding indicates he can handle the lawn. Since his last race he has had a solid workout over the grass up here which could be key. Look for Paddy O'Prado to spring the upset today.

Del Mar

Race 8: # 8 Gangbuster ships out west for this outing and should spring an upset. He his a distance specialist and loves polytrack so he should have no issues on the Del Mar poly or going this far. He comes out of a key race as the winner came back to win a stakes in his next out. A jock switch to Corey Nakatani could be key in getting Gangbuster home on top today.

Race 11: # 2 Strong as Stone loves this distance and runs well over this oval. He has a very good turn of foot and should get the shortest trip around the track with the inside post. Edgar Paucar fits this runner well and should guide Strong as Stone home first today.

Delaware

Race 8: # 10 Christina's World won for fun in her Delaware debut and should make it two in a row today. She has the outside post but does have enough speed where she can clear the field early then cross to the rail. She gets one of the best combos in the world in Gabriel Saez and Larry Jones who should have her ready to roll. Look for a winning run from Christina's World

Mountaineer

Race 2: # 2 Blue Cherries Spin is a classy starter allowance runner and should resume her winning ways today. She has had a short break for this outing which is key and she returns to a surface that should fit her. Even if the race is rained off the turf she should be ready to roll. Yuri Yaranga retains the mount which is key.

Race 8: # 2 Custom for Carlos rides a two race win streak into this contest and should make it three in a row today. He has seemed to come into his own as of late and avoiding traffic trouble has been the key. In most of his losing races he encountered some sort of traffic trouble that might have cost him the race. Hopefully with a clean trip and a return of Julien Leparoux Custom for Carlos can add another graded stakes victory to his resume.

Spot Plays for 8/2/2009

River Downs

Race 3: # 3 Slew Approved makes his return to the River looking to get home first today. This is his third start off of a layoff which could be key and he might not have handle the Tapeta last out at Presque Isle. Horses shipping back to conventional dirt from Tapeta have faired well so hopefully Slew Approved can keep the roll going. Perry Ouzts picks up the mount which is a positive sign.

Saratoga

Race 7: # 4 Cosmonaut ships back to NY for this race and should be ready to fire today. His last out might have been just a little too long and shortening up the 1 1/16 miles should fit him just fine. Julien Leparoux is one of the best turf riders in the country and should get Cosmonaut home first today.

Monmouth Park

Race 6: # 7 Acting Zippy looks to be in good form right now and should win with a good effort today. His last run was his first win at this distance and hopefully he can parlay that into another win. He has a history of win streaks and might take to this oval just fine. He has won here sprinting now look for him to win routing. Justin Shepherd retains the mount today.

Race 9: # 9 Man of Danger makes his third start off of a layoff today and should find the wire first today. He exits a couple of key races and had a reason to regress a little last time after the big effort first off the bench. He loves this oval and comes from a red-hot barn. With Chuch C Lopez in the irons look for a winning effort from Man of Danger today.

Spot Plays for 8/1/2009

River Downs

Race 12: # 3 Brother Terry looks to be the best in this bunch and should get home on top today. He was in over his head a little last out and couldn't get a breather throughout the 1 1/8 mile contest. Shortening up slightly in distance today and facing less pace-pressure should be the key. With all the rain the last couple of days this race should move to the main track and at the end of yesterday's card the rail and speed were holding well. Look for Brother Terry to top this bunch today.

Saratoga

Race 1: # 10 Targe drops in class for this run and should fire big today. He has back to back thirds against stakes and $50,000 claiming company. He drops down to $20,000 today which is the lowest he has seen in quite a while. With Julien Leparoux aboard look for a winning run from Targe in the opener.

Race 4: # 6 Colors Flying makes his second start today and can improve. He broke slowly but ran a decent third last out and stretching out to 7 furlongs could work for him. He comes from a very strong barn and his breeding is very very strong. Since his second start he has a few strong workouts and gets a jock switch to John Velazquez which are all positive. Look for a winning effort from Colors Flying today.

Race 9: # 5 Criticism returns to turf racing today and will step her game up. She tried the dirt in a race that was rained off the turf and is much better on grass. She really likes longer races and I worry if this 1 1/8 might be a little short for her. Since her last start she has a string of solid works and should be ready to fire. Look for a big run from Criticism today.

Arlington Park

Race 7: # 6 My Happiness drops in class for this race and should fit better with this bunch. He was a decent fourth against graded company and finished well in that race. He should get an even better pace setup with Rumor Has It in this spot. My Happiness seems to be rounding into form and with Eddie Razo, Jr. in the saddle look for a winning effort today.

Mountaineer

Race 2: # 6 Trust or Bust is a 4 1/2 furlong specialist that should be right a home today. Throw out his last effort as it was a bit too long and the pace didn't set up in his favor. He has raked in nearly $250,000 just running at this distance and has yet to lose at 4 1/2. He gets his regular rider and should be ready to run today.
