Spot Plays for 8/1/2009

River Downs

Race 12: # 3 Brother Terry looks to be the best in this bunch and should get home on top today. He was in over his head a little last out and couldn't get a breather throughout the 1 1/8 mile contest. Shortening up slightly in distance today and facing less pace-pressure should be the key. With all the rain the last couple of days this race should move to the main track and at the end of yesterday's card the rail and speed were holding well. Look for Brother Terry to top this bunch today.

Saratoga

Race 1: # 10 Targe drops in class for this run and should fire big today. He has back to back thirds against stakes and $50,000 claiming company. He drops down to $20,000 today which is the lowest he has seen in quite a while. With Julien Leparoux aboard look for a winning run from Targe in the opener.

Race 4: # 6 Colors Flying makes his second start today and can improve. He broke slowly but ran a decent third last out and stretching out to 7 furlongs could work for him. He comes from a very strong barn and his breeding is very very strong. Since his second start he has a few strong workouts and gets a jock switch to John Velazquez which are all positive. Look for a winning effort from Colors Flying today.

Race 9: # 5 Criticism returns to turf racing today and will step her game up. She tried the dirt in a race that was rained off the turf and is much better on grass. She really likes longer races and I worry if this 1 1/8 might be a little short for her. Since her last start she has a string of solid works and should be ready to fire. Look for a big run from Criticism today.

Arlington Park

Race 7: # 6 My Happiness drops in class for this race and should fit better with this bunch. He was a decent fourth against graded company and finished well in that race. He should get an even better pace setup with Rumor Has It in this spot. My Happiness seems to be rounding into form and with Eddie Razo, Jr. in the saddle look for a winning effort today.

Mountaineer

Race 2: # 6 Trust or Bust is a 4 1/2 furlong specialist that should be right a home today. Throw out his last effort as it was a bit too long and the pace didn't set up in his favor. He has raked in nearly $250,000 just running at this distance and has yet to lose at 4 1/2. He gets his regular rider and should be ready to run today.
