Spot Plays for 5/14/2009

River Downs

Race 7: # 6 Storm Bay returns to the River and takes a drop in class that will help her get home today. She faced starter allowance foes at Beulah last time and might have been over her head. Her last River effort was a decent third and surely she can improve with another run over this oval. With Cesar Camaque back in the saddle look for Storm Bay to take another step forward today.

Race 11: # 4 Steelyeyed is a solid runner that fits well in this spot. He ran a big race on Derby day over the Beulah oval and that was against starter allowance company. He moves to the claiming ranks today and returns to an oval where he has run well. He can handle an off track and with all the rain the last couple of days the track should be off today. Look for a big run from Steelyeyed today.

Arlington Park

Race 8: # 3 Swans Nest improved greatly in her last race and should keep that roll going today. She won for fun in her polytrack debut and hopefully can handle the Arlington polytrack today. She runs very well at this distance and should give a good effort today. Rene Douglas picks up the mount today

Race 9: # 3 Excessive Heat steps up in class today and has a big chance. She loves this distance as seven of her eight wins have come at the five furlong distance. Don't know if this race will stay on the turf or not but she has proven herself on polytrack as well as turf. E. T. Baird retains the mount today.

Churchill Downs

Race 2: # 5 Reagan's Wildcat makes her debut today and should make it a winning one today. Trainer Ken McPeek does wonders with 2-year-olds and he should have this one primed and ready to roll today. This distance should fit her nicely and with Brian Hernandez, Jr. in the saddle you can expect a decent price on Reagan's Wildcat today.
